2004 - Hurricanes Francis and Ivan

In 2004, NDMS, which was a part of FEMA at the time, tried a "new" concept; the Mega Special Needs Shelter Hospital.  One hundred twenty DMAT personnel were deployed from over 20 teams to staff this DMAT BOO, set up inside one quarter of an exhibit hall in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.  After 3 1/2 days caring for patients from nursing homes in south Florida, who had been transported by various means to Orlando, the group was split up into 2 groups, 1 group was re-deployed for staging to Atlanta, GA, and the second group was re-deployed on the next day to a fire station closer to Florida's pandhandle.

2005 - Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma

As we all know, the 2005 Hurricane Season was by far the most destructive season on record - 28 named storms, 15 of which were Hurricanes.  Virtually every NDMS response team was deployed at one time or another, some more than once, between July and November, including Minnesota-1 DMAT.
